  Type/Antitype John the Baptist/Charles Taze Russell..... Slave/Rutherford/Knorr/GB?

  last night i got to thinking about all that type and antitype foolishness, and how with these latest changes they've essentially thrown russell under the bus.

  do you think the type/antitype belief system possibly brought about this latest change in understanding?

  according to the notes on this latest change, russell was not the faithful & discreet slave, however just like john the baptist, he was the one forshadowing someone that would turn out to be larger in scope.

  Last night I got to thinking about all that type and antitype foolishness, and how with these latest changes they've essentially thrown Russell under the bus. Do you think the type/antitype belief system possibly brought about this latest change in understanding? According to the notes on this latest change, Russell was NOT the faithful & discreet slave, however just like John the Baptist, he was the one forshadowing someone that would turn out to be larger in scope. The verse about John the Baptist being less than the least of someone in the Kingdom comes to mind as well.

  The other thing I'm wondering about is the time frame between Russell's death, and Rutherford's ascension. The years are similar to the scope of time between Jesus' baptism, John's imprisonment, Jesus' ministry, and John's death. There's a lot of variables that the WT can draw off of to make their case for this new change.

  I'm not entirely understanding why she faked an affair? My impression is that there's more dignity in getting DF'd for behavioral reasons than there is in going apostate. I dont mean self dignity either, but rather how active JWs will view you. Active JWs are more hopeful and sympathetic to someone DFd over sexual activity than they are over someone openly disagreeing with the GB's authority or doctrines.

  I think they got the trinity right, and theres been some very good trinity threads on here where compelling arguments have been made. None were sufficient enough to sway me.

  The condition of the dead and by extention the lack of a burning hell I believe they got right. Ditto on Pergatory.

  As far as Jesus being an angel, spirit creature, etc., I dont think its wrong to say he was an angel, no more than saying Satan was. I will say that the evidence the WT uses to say he was Michael isnt as substantial as they'd like to believe.

  watchtowers power struggles, slinging hope and keeping their customers coming.. watching the gov body is like watching 'the wire' !

  all politics and power struggles.... struggles for power, to get more power and to keep the power.

  they gain control over their 'clients' by selling them hope, bags of hope!.

  Very GOOD illustration! Makes sense. You're analogy is the 2012 updated version of religion being the opium of the people. If the WT is the Barksdale Organization, would it be fair to say Ray Franz was Marlo Standfield?

  today my crush was on tv and a quick blush came to my face as i remembered all the silliness i did to run into him when he was attending jr. college near my grandparents....sigh.... so who was yours?

  In the 80's it was all about Heather Locklear. And she's only gotten better with age.

  Man I remember getting home from school and seeing the commercials for the latest Melrose episode, but the one that always stood out to me was when she was the supervisor of some company, and she told the dude to"get in my office now!" like he was in trouble. The folks wouldn't let me watch that show, so I never saw that episode, but the commercial preview definately left an impression. She definately got finer like aged wine as she got older. Saw the old pictures of her in TJ Hooker, and she was weak to me then, just a typical blonde IMO. But a decade or so later, she was serious.
